Drip Coffee Maker Recipe

  1. Place a paper filter, gold metal filter, or unbleached brown paper filter into the basket.
  2. Add freshly ground coffee. Approximately 60 grams per liter of water.
  3. Fill machine with water. Press start.
  4. Start a timer. The timer is used to measure the time from when you first turn on the brewer to when the last drops of coffee end up in the glass carafe. It should take approximately 4 to 6 minutes to brew. To make adjustments, add or remove dry coffee grounds to lengthen or shorten the brew time.
  5. Taste your brew. Make notes on length of time and taste descriptions. Try not to use marketed coffee terms, such as bold, dark or strong as descriptors. Learn how to describe what you taste here and here

3 Simple Rules for Buying Your Coffee For Home

Remember, to produce high quality coffee, similar to what you normally find in cafes, follow these 3 simple rules:

  1. Buy FRESH whole bean coffee... 3 to 14 days from the roasting date.
  2. Only buy from coffee roasters that use a BIRTH DATE on the bag.
  3. Do not buy coffee that has a best before date, which is also known as a DEATH DATE.

Quality fresh coffee does not have to be expensive. Buying from a high quality artisan coffee roaster is very close to the same cost as stale coffee. It can actually save you money, especially, if you have been unknowingly paying for stale ‘premium’ coffee from overseas, or even worse, coffee in capsule or pod form. (bad for the environment too!)

Over time, your tasting notes will serve you to make better coffee. If you have any questions, please post them in the comments section below or use the contact us link.
